One of the world’s most celebrated routes along the California coast. The California tour begins in Los Angeles, then one-day tour to San Diego, at the southern end of the state, then travels north to beach towns, through elegant Santa Barbara and surrounding wine country, then north to more beaches and attractions in Carmel, Monterey, and Yosemite. End in the ultimate City by the Bay, San Francisco.
Meet-and-greet at Los Angeles airport, transfer to hotel.
Today we will visit several charming L.A. neighborhoods – including Santa Monica, Westwood Village, Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air and Hollywood – as well as popular L.A. attractions, like the Santa Monica Pier, the Sunset Strip, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and much, much more! The afternoon is at leisure to pursue your own interests.
Today you’re on your way to Universal Studios Hollywood, the world’s largest movie studio and theme park, where you’ll get a behind the scenes look at film production and learn how special effects make your favorite movies come to life.
There is so much San Diego has to offer! Famous Sea World San Diego, Balboa Park or one of the largest zoos in the world – San Diego Zoo. On this tour you will cruise through Coronado Island and the Silver Strand, Mission and Pacific Beaches stopping at Crystal Pier and other points of interest. You’ll also hit up La Jolla Cove, Seal Beach and the Shores with stunning views of the cliffs of Torrey Pines.
Visit The Getty Villa in Malibu and enjoy the fabulous art collections and spectacular grounds overlooking the city and the Pacific Ocean. Following the Pacific coast north, stop in Santa Barbara, one of California’s most beautiful cities with spectacular Spanish Revival architecture. We will stop at the Denmark Village in Solvang, where we will have lunch. The day ends on arrival at the quaint seaside city of Cambria and your delightful hotel nestled amongst pine trees.
A short drive along the coast brings you to San Simeon for a guided tour of Hearst Castle. Built on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific, the spectacular grounds and grandiose home feature the world-class art collection of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Continue north through the beautiful rolling hills of California’s Central Coast, dotted with vineyards.
Welcome to one of the world’s most unforgettable stretches of coastline – Big Sur. This roughly 90-mile-long stretch of redwood- and fog-trimmed waterfront between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle has no specific boundaries, no urban core, drawing you (and writers like Henry Miller and Beat Generation darling Jack Kerouac) in with a magic allure that is almost palpable. This is, quite simply, a place you want to be—bluffs, sea, and sky.
Stop at the artist colony of Carmel with time to stroll down the tree-lined Ocean Avenue, past quirky shops and art galleries. As you travel along the scenic 17 Mile Drive, home to multi-million dollar mansions and the Pebble Beach Golf Links, to the historic seaside town of Monterey, where Cannery Row and Fisherman’s Wharf reflect the city’s long history with the sea. This evening is at leisure to explore Monterey.
Famous for its plunging waterfalls and massive granite faces, this unparalleled parkland Yosemite National Park, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984, attracts 4 million visitors each year—with good reason. It features unforgettable natural beauty, from the sheer walls of Yosemite Valley to the alpine beauty of Tuolumne Meadows.
Cradling California’s most famous wine country, these two world-famous wine regions, both about an hour’s drive north of San Francisco, boast rolling hills planted with some of the most coveted grapes in the world.
Napa Valley reigns as the land of grand estates, expansive tasting rooms, quaint towns, and elegant lodgings, many lining the celebrated Silverado Trail.
Sonoma County tends to have a more intimate feel, especially as you head further north towards the Russian River. Whether they’re in a castle or renovated barn, the hundreds of wineries in Napa and Sonoma Valleys earn their gold medals and international accolades.
In the late afternoon arrival to San Francisco.
Enjoy a morning tour of North America’s most romantic city – San Francisco. See the famous sights of this eclectic metropolis: Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, the Victorian mansions of Alamo Square, the rolling hills of the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. Spend the afternoon at your leisure.
Flight from San Francisco back home.
